Our adventure into the world of non-fiction has begun! We have talking about the different features of non-fiction books and how we know if a book is non-fiction vs. fiction. When you are reading a non-fiction book with your child at home I encourage you to talk about how you can tell if it is a non-fiction text. Here are some features we've discovered non-fiction books have:
- Photographs of real world things
- A Table of Contents
- Facts or information on how to do things
- Pictures are labelled
- Pictures have captions
- A glossary
* If you find other features while reading together write them in your agenda and I can add them to our list!
A few students have chosen animals to start writing on and we will begin gathering our research next week. There will be a few options on how this project comes together so be on the watch for that in next weeks blog. We are getting pretty excited about this writing project!
iRead Campaign
Our school is participating in a new campaign called iRead. From now until February 1 we will be collecting pictures of students and staff members reading in their favourite places with their favourite books! Our school will receive $1.00 for every picture taken to purchase books for our library. So please get those phones and cameras out and get caught reading! If you are unable to take a picture of your child please let me know and I will get it done at school. Please try to take them horizontally and can be printed on a 4x6 photo. If you cannot print them please send them to me through my email [email protected] and I will take care of them. Have fun!
