Thank you for all the books we received in our class and for your excitement about our new project! The students have all picked their animal to research and we have officially begun filling out our fact finding template as of today! We have a few new updates coming this week so please read carefully :)
Welcome to Mrs. Wengel
We were very sad to see Mrs. Pocock retire last week but we are thankful for everything she did for our classroom and we had a great time learning with her! We give a big welcome to Mrs. Wengel today and are excited to work and grow with her. Be sure to check out her blog to see what we are up to in social, science and art!
Update on Zippy Books
Thank you to everyone who has been keeping up on Zippy books! It truly does help our students with their reading. This is such an exciting time as the kids are really starting to grow in their learning. When reading it is important for students to develop fluency, which means they can use comfortably read all the words in a book. Part of fluency is also understanding what you are reading. These things do not always come the first time reading a book so please do not be afraid to keep a zippy book for 2-3 days so your child can become confident and comfortable with it. Rereading is a great strategy to help develop fluency. I do not expect zippy books to always come back every day especially in the higher levels.
Note for Gr. 2s
Please watch for new home reading journals coming home this week for the Grade 2s. They will be a tool that help students deepen their understanding about the books they are reading by asking questions, finding vocabulary words, reviewing books and providing summaries of what happened in the text. Here is a copy of the letter that will be coming home that you can refer to:
